Environmental Cermark Questions

Where can Cermark be used? Environmental R&D for Cermark Products.

(1) Is CerMark Safe to Use Indoors?

> The safety of CerMark materials depends on proper usage. They should be applied like paint and not sprayed in enclosed spaces. CerMark does not contain cadmium, and it is safe to use as long as it is used in a well-ventilated area or a spray booth that directs air away from the user.

(2) Is there any info or data sheets about using cermark in vacuum environments or ultra high vacuum compatibility?

>We have limited data on this, however there are three possible variants:

  • Applying in vacuum: application will be problematic due to the solvent in our colors. In vacuum they will evaporate which will be problematic for applying.
  • Lasering in vacuum: if the material is applied correctly and dried afterwards, I don't think it should be a problem to laser it properly. Although as noted: it was never tested.
  • Using a lasered substrate in a vacuum environment: This is no problem, our materials are used for tracking parts in aerospace (it is literally in space) without any problem. Once the material is properly bonded by lasering it there is no problem.
